Silverlake is known for a thriving art scene, somewhat affordable rents for young people, a big reservoir that attracts hikers and weekend joggers, and multiple sets of endless steps that climb for stories and stories.
It's in Silverlake where Laurel and Hardy filmed their classic 1932 film "The Music Box," movie about the two piano movers, and where Walt Disney had his first movie studio, on Hyperion Avenue. (The studio is now a Gelson's upscale super market! But the bungalows Disney had built for his staffers is still alive and well, behind Gelson's.
