Changing people's eating habits might be even more difficult than changing our energy sources. Vat meat may be a big help, if it becomes affordable and widely available. Another way to move people in the right direction might be a carbon tax on meat, though this would face tremendous political opposition. I suspect that the environmental argument for giving up meat will not be as persuasive as the ethical argument against industrial livestock production, which can be conveyed more easily through images.
I have become completely pessimistic about climate change. Every time we get an update about measured changes, things seem to be getting worse much faster than previous models predicted. We are losing ground when we need to be gaining it quickly. William Gibson's 'Jackpot' in The Peripheral is starting to feel inevitable.
