Peonies are blooming in the gardens near me. Some are near the end of life, some are still wearing tight buds.
Long Hill is a property in Beverly, MA that provides a home for tree peonies. It feels like the bloom was a week later than usual this year. I saw a single tree peony in bloom on May 23rd. I returned to the garden on May 29th to see peonies in many colors in full bloom.
Closer to home is the Stevens-Coolidge Place. While the gardens there include a couple of tree peonies, most of the flowers there are the more common herbaceous peonies. A visit on Friday confirmed that the peonies are all wearing tight round buds; they should open soon! I volunteer Stevens-Coolidge on Wednesdays; once the peonies are blooming there I will visit with my camera.
