    • I didn't know anything about this show (or the comic series) when I started watching it this weekend. I was honestly expecting yet another angsty teen drama in the typical CW template. I was pleasantly surprised when the show immediately jumped into a bizarre ultra-dysfunctional X-men with strong overtones reminding me of Watchmen.

The characters themselves are pretty wacky but compelling, and most of the time is spent on the character and plot development. Much less emphasis on what their powers are in particular. I'm about 2/3 of the way through and the plotline is really compelling.

No punches are pulled on the action scenes, and the show is fairly dark and violent.

The themes of dysfunctional former family, that used to fight crime together and are now being brought back together is highly reminiscent of Watchmen. The tone and gritty nature are very similar.

      [SEMI-SPOILERS]

One of the great things about the show is that the obvious teeth gnashing antagonists are both interesting and troubled. As the plot unfolds a more insidious threat is revealed, which is much more about relationships and personal growth than it is about defeating a super villain in a climactic battle.

Still need to finish it off, but I'm definitely excited to see the resolution.

    • I may have seen a trailer for this show before - but this conversation must have been at the back of my mind when I was looking for something new to watch on Netflix last week. Thank you for pointing out the similarity to Watchmen, because I really liked that movie as well! :)

I think this scene (from episode 1, not really a spoiler) sold me:
