I loved The Dawn Wall because the story is both authentic and compelling. I was well aware of Tommy's journey, but it was nice to see it pieced together in a feature film. You couldn't contrive a better climbing story. The real events that took place in his life compelled him to devote 7 years of his life to the insane project of sending the Dawn Wall.

IMHO Dawn Wall is a notch above Free Solo because there wasn't a need to pad the film with vignettes about the filmmakers or candid moments with a girlfriend. Tommy is such an interesting, multifaceted human being who has been through so much hardship. There is no shortage of content that appeals to dedicated climbers.
