Next time you visit the SF Bay Area consider booking a whale watching trip out of Monterey, Moss Landing, Santa Cruz or Half Moon Bay.

For me the best is out of Moss Landing (aka Elkhorn Slough) given the population of sea otters in the harbor and the closeness of the whales and dolphins to the harbor. If you're daring you can rent sea kayaks and paddle out - it's only about 3 to 4 miles.

The whales are staying longer due to the abundance of anchovies and squid. Even Orca whales have established resident pods and feast on sea lions, dolphins and even sharks.
