Caffeine has a long history of use by humans, for centuries or millenia. Most consume it from coffee or tea. Prior to widespread modern water purity treatments. I suspect boiling may have played a large role in preventing disease if one was diligent to only drink boiled water, like tea.
While I consume modest amounts of coffee and tea, much commercially sold coffee and tea ( Starbucks among others ) contains a lot of sugar and saturated fat. But I stiill like the mild stimulatation and mental clarity that caffeine helps me experience, but preferably without the fat and sugar.
So I have been using Crystal Light powdered drink mix - mostly grape or wild strawberry. I don't proclaim this is a health drink - it is a tool for me to consume a known quantity of caffeine without sugar - the list on contents is one the side of the box posted below, and they are reasonably safe for my consumption in modest doses.
I am aware there are people who cannot consume Aspartame safely ( Phenyketonurics and folks with tardive dyskinesia), but I have for many years without apparent issues. I am also aware that there are conroversies regarding the use of aspartame, but the Aceeptable Daliy Intake according to the FDA is 50mg/Kg which is a pretty large dose, but I haven't found a reliable link on the web with how much aspartame is in Crystal Light. If I could find the amount of aspartame in Crystal Light Energy, then I could estimate my exposure in mgs/Kg better. Alas.
This link discusses the use of Aspartame and suggests using honey, maple syrup, agave nectar, stevia leaves, or molasses. - except for the Stevia, they are all forms of sugar, frequently in much larger amounts than in a Coca-Cola
I use Crystal Light as a TOOL for caffeine aquisition - and avoid the sugar, fat, and the acidity from brewed coffees. I do not use Crystal Light as a chronic daily beveridge or water replacement. Water is still preferred for hydration, but lacks the caffeiene needed for safer driving sometimes.
I will now put on my steel helmet for the expected fusillade of epithets regarding my intelligence, my life choices, health risks, etc -
I rode motorcycles for >20 years, so I am fully aware of risks to life and limb. 😍
I still use a chain saw now and again, too.😎😄
