It seems to me that the NBA and the NBA players are one of the bright spots of the summer. I am impressed at how they have stayed so focused and so *human.*
According to Andy Slavitt (head of CMS in Obama’s admin), they made choices all along the way while they were setting up the bubble to support and advance testing research in a way that would benefit everyone—they didn’t just rush to develop something that would only benefit the league. Recently, the league announced all stadia would be opened as polling places in November to facilitate social distancing. Over the weekend, I saw a local announcement that all the US Jazz players have registered to vote. Donovan Mitchell, one of the star players on the Jazz just announced he has worked out a deal with one of his sponsors to donate $45k + $45k for the purpose of funding the education of Jacob Blake’s 3 kids.
Despite all the ugly divisiveness of these times, the NBA continues to try to be a force for justice and unity. I so appreciate that!
