    • Not as crazy as your friend but I built myself an Ergodox two years ago that has been in daily use ever since. Ended up transitioning due to the same reasons of wrist pain and numbness. The layout is QWERTY but with various system keys relocated for more ergonomic default system shortcuts. So far it's been a joy.

      The biggest change for me was moving the Ctrl key to the thumb cluster for easy copy/paste as well as having the arrow keys on the JIKL keys (I know not vi friendly). Those two changes were one of the main contributors of my pain and have since resolved.
