I guess I should define troll first but I’ll leave that to somebody better informed and experienced than I. Has anyone encountered troll behaviour on Cake? How we each define troll and how personally sensitive we are to criticism would certainly affect our views. I’ve never seen any kind of troll person on Cake. In fact I would probably say I’m one of the people on Cake that is most likely to criticize an argument but I certainly wouldn’t call myself a troll as my goal is never to try to get a rise out of another. I have been pretty harsh on a view I saw as too postmodernist jargon but generally I find the people on Cake extremely civil and focused on ‘facts’. They may disagree on their take of the facts but compared to social media there is at least an agreement of what is real. In fact I’d say the Cake community is very philosophical and reflective. More representative of a highly educated and intelligent lay population and pretty far from the norm. Thoughts? Go easy on me trolls.
I haven't come across any trolls on Cake. The whole idea of Cake is to have troll free conversations. I feel Cake has done a great job of keeping this a troll free zone!
One thing I'm worried about is there can't be a movie without conflict because no one will watch. Maybe no one wants to be made fun of and trolled, but they want to watch it unfold on social media. A lot of Twitter stars unleash the zingers, and it's the zingers people like and hence the algorithms deliver.
It's an interesting experiment to see if Jimmy Wales' wt.social gains much traction. It has many of the same values as us and he has an enormous mailing list, but it feels low on traction so far.
