Curious to get some thoughts on this: Will Donald Trump go down as the worst president in American history? The two notable challengers from contemporary history are Richard Nixon and George W. Bush. Nixon for running a crime ring out of the White House; Bush for the Iraq War. If we are talking all-time, James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, Franklin Pierce, and Warren G. Harding are other strong contenders for this dubious distinction.
I know we won’t really have an answer for this until we’ve gained more distance from the Trump presidency, but at the same time, Trump has made a pretty strong case to be considered the worst president in American history: He fanned the flames of hate and racial division unlike any president in the modern era, had a multitude of scandals that rivaled Warren G. Harding, and is the first president in any era to challenge the very foundations of our democratic processes.
Anyone think Donald Trump will go down as the worst president ever or is still too early to make that judgment? I think it’s too early to make that judgment and I’m saying this as one who despises everything about what this presidency has been about.
