Photoshelter produces the most amazing guide to photo contests each year and their 2019 guide is out. It lists 28 of the most legit contests with details for submission and tips for winning (shoot damn good photos).
The thing is, big prizes + prestige are on the line, so it takes some very savvy judges to suss out whether the photographer took some liberties. I fell in love with this wolf photo, which won the prestigious UK World Wildlife Photography Contest, only to have the award reversed when the judges determined it must have been a tame wolf that was trained to jump that way.
I loved the photo so much I stalked the photographer because I didn't care if the wolf had been trained. After two years of stalking, he agreed to let me buy the rights to print it 72x72 inches, and it's still on SmugMug's walls today.
So. Anyone going to enter a photo this year in a contest?
