    • Heh. They say I'm part way between Obama and Bernie Sanders. I didn't know how to answer many of the questions, however, which probably had a strong influence on the results. For example, do I approve of conservatism? What does that currently mean? In 2016 I thought it meant no large deficits, and I approved. Does conservatism now mean a $1 trillion annual deficit is okay? I don't approve.

Also, by taking this quiz, does that mean the data is somehow used to target me with specific ads?

    • Almost dead center where I belong. Not a big fan of picking sides based on ideology. I can pick a side on an issue but I know there should always be room to move. I have been an independent for many years now as I began to realize the dangers of picking sides for political expediency. Big fan of term limits and tort reform!!!!!

    • I think I had a similar experience Chris, not knowing how to answer many of the questions. They say I'm most similar to Obama.

    • I wonder how they know where Obama and Macron are. It seems unlikely they answered the same questions.

Btw, it's stunning to watch Macron's popularity plummet in France and demonstrations break out there. His approval rating has gone as low as 21% and sits this week at 25%, far lower than Trump's. Big demonstrations have broken out in France and the populist right seems to be gaining a lot more momentum.

    • I wonder how they know where Obama and Macron are. It seems unlikely they answered the same questions.

The methodology is explained here. Experts (mostly political scientists and a few journalists) from around the world were asked to answer the quiz as if they were the politicians in question. Now obviously, this is all rather fuzzy, so it shouldn't be taken terribly seriously. As some have pointed out, the terms are vague in some cases. I found myself thinking, "well, it all depends..." often. Then there are politicians like Trump who talk like populists but don't govern as populists, though presumably the experts took that into account. Still, it put me closest to Pablo Iglesias, leader of the Spanish left wing Podemos party, which isn't a perfect match but isn't too far off the mark.

    • Also, by taking this quiz, does that mean the data is somehow used to target me with specific ads?

I think we can only assume that everything we say and do on the Internet is going to be scraped, sliced, diced and sold to the highest bidder. Sadly, there seems to be no avoiding it unless you live under a rock with no net connection.

    • Markos Giannopoulos

True , the questions were quite fuzzy.

As for the privacy issue, given that this is a EU (still) media, I have some decent expectations of them not using these for ad targeting
