    • Does anyone have an 80’s arcade game at home? Or dare I mention it—a pinball machine? Reply with details, a memory if you’d like to share, and a photo of your treasure.

    • I don't own any but we have a place up in Salem MA called Bit Bar with a bunch from the 80's and 90's.

I don't think I'd ever get an arcade machine myself because I know the maintenance required and pain it can be to source parts. But it's great that there are places around the country restoring them and giving the public access to try these games.

    • I was really thrilled a while ago to find a game app for my tablet that resembled the old "Asteroids" arcade game. I used to play that a lot in preference to "Space Invaders".

After a few games, however, I discovered I was still absolutely rubbish at it.

Truly, you can never go back,,,,,,

    • I don't have an arcade machine but I do have pacman on the playstation. With emulators, you can play most retro games on your mac / pc.

I grew up playing games in arcades and remember pong !

    • It’s been over forty years since Pong came out, and yet I bet, if I played the familiar bloop sound when the paddle hit a ball, you would instantly recognize it.

    • Have you looked into the Arcade 1Up cabinets at all?

They don't have pong but there are a lot of other classic ones:

They're 3/4 size and made with software emulation/LCD screens but there controls are pretty solid especially in the more recent ones.

    • We downsized a year and a half ago and the last thing we’d want to do is add more furniture to our much smaller home. So I can only live vicariously through those who do still play the classics. I have a friend who has one of those arcades in his town and we played there for an hour the last time I was out there. Unfortunately, he lives three hours away so we don’t get together too many times a year. But yeah, that multi-game cabinet does sound sweet—maybe I can move some stuff around to make room for it.

      😉

    • So you're saying that I also shouldn't give you all the options on how to play them in a smaller space? I could be a really bad influence on this subject lol

    • You are pure evil, JB. 😉

Seriously, as much as I enjoy randomly finding an old game like Galaga in a bar and playing a few games, I would be concerned that I would end up playing Asteroids until three am and then getting fired because I was too tired to proofread the file for the board of directors meeting (replace board meeting with something less impressive sounding).

    • Okay, so I may have spent more time playing this game than I had planned to.

Fortunately, I have superior willpower and won’t be playing this game again anytime soon. 😎
