    • Conventional wisdom is Jesus was born in the spring. Christmas has its roots as a pagan holiday celebrating the winter solstice.

    • The question that should be asked is whether God chose Christmas or whether man invented an unauthorized practice.

God has chosen how he wants His people to serve Him.

      1 Corinthians 1:27-29

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.

When it comes to remembering Jesus, God chose that believers should remember Him through bread and the fruit of the vine.

      1 Corinthians 11:23-25

For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Without God's permission man cannot even approach God let alone seek to serve Him. But God has decreed for those whom He saves that we should walk in those works which He has prepared.

      Ephesians 2:8-10

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Since God did not choose to give His people instructions for religious holidays nor provide us any examples in the Bible of the Christians of the first century observing a holiday of remembrance then we should not presume to go beyond the things that are written.

    • The scholars have determined that they can’t even be certain Jesus was a real man that developed into legend or a legend that developed into a real man. There’s strong reasons to think he didn’t even exist. This from historical scholars.

This podacast episode has a section that summarizes the evidence for and against Jesus being a real person:
