I ride for me. Time alone. Riding feels like active meditation to me and is the exercise I looked forward to for the first time in my life. I moved to NYC and riding in the Marin Headlands is the thing I miss most. Road biking changed my life in many ways.
What don't we think about when riding :) ... When I lived in SF I was riding a lot in the afternoons after work, I used it to process the day and create some space.
When I was training to get my time under 9 minutes on hawk hill (that was the badge of honor among my riding friends) I was just listening to upbeat music, watching the sun rise and feeling grateful for being there (and the pain) and when the road allowed... thinking about work, relationships and general day dreaming.
