    • Good morning and happy new year everyone ๐Ÿฅ‚๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ‰ My husband and I went to a castle restaurant last night for dinner and there we waited for the new year to arrive, dancing until we lost our breath. At midnight we were served with lentils which here represent abundance for the wish of prosperity for the new year. I'd like to know what your culinary traditions are for New Year's Eve and how you waited for the new year

    • I like visiting the Castles, but this is only for ceremonies. last night there was also a wedding party ๐Ÿ‘ฐ๐Ÿคต ๐Ÿ˜Š There are many rooms, each of which had its own dance floor and DJ. it was fun ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ

    • Dancing and dining in a castle in Italy!! โค๏ธ Who is going to top that?!

I am embarrassed to confess our culinary habits for New Year's. I am health-oriented, so lentils would score 10/10 in my book. But I took three girls, ages 8, 10, and 12 to Six Flags, which is an amusement park with huge roller coasters and lions, cougars, tigers, giraffes (they got to feed the giraffes!).

Anyway, the girls wanted to celebrate New Year's with treats they don't get often in daily life. One chose Krispy Kreme donuts. Very decadent.

      Another chose a Slurpee. Gross.

And a third, with me, chose a Jamba Juice. Yum. More Italian?

    • This is my 5th year shooting fireworks from the same location. I think I am going to change locations next year. Our fireworks are not really the best (like Australia) mostly due to the only place to really launch them is atop the hotels....which limits the capabilities of the explosions...especially adjacent to the airport. But, it is what it is. I loved the Italian romantic!

    • It was the first time for me to have dinner in a Castle, yes nice, but I would have preferred an amusement park... I don't feel comfortable with elegant clothes and high-heeled shoes. Lentils in Italy are a tradition and never fail on New Year's Eve, it seems that they bring luck ๐Ÿž they are certainly good for the health. Your girls are lucky to have a dad who entertains them (allowing them to eat delicacies normally prohibited, is part of the role of parents). Krispy Kreme donuts look very good ๐Ÿ™ƒ Jamba Juice is as healthy as lentils but I also ate a lot of unhealthy things before lentils ๐Ÿ˜œ

all very good, but really too much for me!

    • come to Italy for next year! it won't be as exciting as being in NY but you can still have fun

    • We always spend New Year with friends, and alternate years between my friends who live in the woods of Saint-Lazare, Quebec (where we usually do a big pot luck buffet) and my wifeโ€™s friends ski cottage (nicknamed The Swish Chalet) near Collingwood, Ontario - which is what we did this year. We ate baked fish, smashed potatoes, and rapini, and I drank Russian Imperial Stout. My wife made a mocha cake, and my Lebanese friend in Montreal gave me baklava, so those were our treats.

We usually follow this up with cross country skiing, but this year we have to return to the city because my wife has to work tomorrow.

    • We adventured on a hike up Mission Peak in Fremont, California to watch the last sunset of the decade. It was surprisingly peaceful and not windy (usually the wind is blowing hard at the summit).

The skies lit up with blues and purple hues.

    • Thanks for sharing your usual New Year's traditions. Time spent with friends is precious and meeting with them to celebrate the new year is a special moment. A wonderful feeling to wake up in a magical place. Thanks for the pictur is beautiful ๐Ÿ˜

    • It looks like everyone enjoyed their New Year's Eve. My neighbor hosted a neighborhood party that started at 6;30 PM. It was pot luck with a wide assortment of finger foods. Since we are all such party animals (not) the Host and Hostess planned the midnight cheers for Midnight New York time, we live in the Pacific Northwest so it was 9:00 pm.

We toasted in the New Year with Champagne or Sparking Cider for those who prefer non-alcoholic beverages (me). We even had poppers that banged and spread confetti all over everything. We also had silly New Years Eve hats, and a few other silly things. For entertainment there was oldies music and games. One table of people played bingo and another table was playing roulette with rules in both games being made up as things went along. It was a lot of fun and the party was over by 10:00 pm. It was nice that no one was driving and the hosts had places to sleep if anyone had too much to drink and didn't want to stagger home.

    • Very romantic your last night of the year. The charm of the sunset is unmatched. Beautiful colors, beautiful view. Great way to start a new year, immersed in the beauty of nature ๐Ÿฅ‚ ๐ŸŒ…

    • you made me remember when I was very young and for the new year they all gathered us at a neighbor's house to celebrate the new year. I have tried to create this harmony here where I live now, but people here are cold and uninterested in good neighborly relations. Your neighbor seems very hospitable, I think you enjoyed it too ๐Ÿฅ‚ I wish you to continue to always have lovable neighbors so ๐Ÿ’š

    • ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ spectacular ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ

      watch this video.

it's the castle of Ferrara; the guests of the castle admired the fireworks display from the inside. two years ago some friends went there, they said it was amazing! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

    • Amazing! And the songs were in English from artists like Elton John? That surprised me.

      How did they do these?

    • in Italy there are many schools of fireworks, it's an artistic source for our country. Often in summer there are fireworks competitions and festivals, especially in Southern Italy. This is an article on the preparation of the fireworks at the castle of Ferrara, the one you see in the photo is Mr. Sardella who personally prepares the fires
ย Ferrara, 30 December 2019 - Fountains, Roman candles, single jets, sunburst: towers and balconies are now an arsenal of fireworks.ย  Giuliano Sardella, the master of ceremonies of Parente Fireworks, has now completed the laying of the 'barrels' (which, in fact, he ensures, they will make little noise) with which, at midnight tomorrow, the Castle will catch fire and life.ย  But the work, to prepare a show "more charged and colorful than ever seen" (Sardella's words), is certainly not finished.ย  Because everything will be connected not only to the computer that will fireworks according to the music, but also to the artistic lighting system, which represents the great novelty of this edition.ย  The twentieth, from the birth of a party that has rightly entered among the unmissable events of San Silvestro: ยซThe lights with which the Castle is illuminated, during this holiday season, - explains Sardella - will change and be synchronized with the pyrotechnic effects.ย  An example?ย  When the facades turn purple, there will be golden flashes. "ย  But beyond the chromatic effect, the expert guarantees that "in this way the Castle will always remain visible, even in the midst of fireworks.ย  And the yield, for those who take photos and videos, will be better and more spectacular ยป.

    • Ok, Margot....way to get this thread going in additional to @Chris's comment. I am not one for New Year's resolutions...but, call it semantics I am going to try some new stuff this year.

      1) I just bought this book - The reviews looks great.

      2) I had already planned to purchase an electric bike in late January to help get me back on the exercise train. I gotta have fun working out and the gym is not fun for me.

So, with a realistic tweak, a tad more exercise and better fuel going into my body, I can start getting back to my rock star status. hahahahahah

oh, and lastly @margot your featured image for this thread is actually quite wondereful. A sort of modern culture still life composition.

    • Good for you, Robert!!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

A Mediterranean diet and exercise can work wonders. I donโ€™t like the gym either.
