Every summer, I pick up a four pack of Guinness and have never once finished it: by Christmas, what’s left gets thrown in a pan to simmer turkey sausage or kielbasa, or it gets tossed down the sink.

I’m not much of a drinker, but I found it interesting that spirits makers, such as Diageo (Johnny Walker, Smirnoff, Crown Royal, Baileys, and Guinness), are pulling their ads on social media for the entire month of July. (If you don’t know why, check out the “Further Reading” section below.)

Without the inundation of advertising, will consumers try new beverages or stick to their standards during summer picnics and grill outs? Or does it really matter if you’re a local craft beer maven?
