    • I have a 13 inch Peak Design Everyday Messenger bag I want to sell or trade for a 15 inch. Is it cool to start for sale conversations on Cake? Is that a thing?

    • Great question! Thanks for asking.

We discussed this internally and came to the conclusion that Cake probably isn't the best place for buying / selling / trading, for a couple of reasons:

      1. A sale or trade requires exchanging at least a little bit of personal info (contact info, address, payment details, etc). Since Cake is fully public, it's not a good place to carry out this kind of transaction.

      2. Once selling / trading becomes common on a platform, it tends to drown out other activity. We've seen this happen on platforms like Nextdoor (which has embraced it and added dedicated functionality for it), but that's not our goal for Cake and we'd prefer not to see topics like "photography" fill up with for sale/trade posts.

The bottom line is that there are lots of places online where you can buy and sell things, and those places are probably better suited for it than Cake is.

That said, if you were to post a substantial review, discussion, or story about your Peak Design Everyday Messenger (which is probably my favorite bag ever, btw!) on Cake and your post linked to another site where you were offering the bag for sale, that would be fine as long as it's a meaningful conversation and not spammy.

Thanks for prompting us to think about this!
