There are certain things you just don't do in the US, and attacking our elected representatives is one of them.
Was one of them.

If it's any consolation, all the people I've encountered on Cake.co are worthy of a high status in my books. Even the ones I've vehemently disagreed with I can't say they are bad people or stupid. There's plenty to build off of.
We do have to ask ourselves how the built up frustration and pain of covid has affected people and made them do things they normally wouldn't have. But then...their accepting of Trump's nonsense goes back years :( Well when it's rebuilt it should be stronger - one hopes.
As he should! This is nuts!
Spot on!
The chickens are coming home to roost for the Republican Party for sure.
Maybe Trump will finally get removed from office? Republicans are talking about it...
We’ve dreamed of it since day one. He would call for civil war if it happened.
The biggest enemy of freedom is fear. It just so happens that unregulated capitalism is based on greed, promoting lack of (real) education, strong application of fear and plantation mentality in population. Primordial instincts and their exploitation are powerfully at play here in the 'Land of the Free', but maybe, just maybe, some are starting to wake up to what their 'Freedom' truly means, which is serving someone else. Shallow con men like the current one succeed and thrive in this kind of society.
I think you're way overstating things. Frankly "some are starting to wake up to what their 'Freedom' truly means, which is serving someone else." this is something the extremists would say.
Extremists have to create a dystopian hellscape and then try to convince everyone we live in it. How else would anyone support their desire to burn it all down?
The far left extremists do the same thing, pretending we have "unregulated capitalism", a wealthy 1% and everyone else in poverty, corporations running everything... The far right does the same thing, just substitute the hellscape.
Are you saying corporations don't run everything? Being slave to a rat race, with a life myred in a dumbed down, artificially debt driven society seems normal to you? Yeah, the 1%'ers are the kings and queens of today. Bow to them.
No, corporations do not run everything. And no, I do not subscribe to the hellscape you're asserting and don't believe there are any statistics that back up that description of life in the US.
Maybe your view is right, and mine wrong. What then, creates and cultivates the true values that drive American society? What are those values? Can you share your thoughts?
I doubt I'm understanding your question since we went from "corporations run everything, slave to a rat race, with a life mired in a dumbed down, artificially debt driven society" to "what creates and cultivates the true values that drive American society". I think you're asking for my counter to your dystopian hellscape description of life in the US, but I'm not sure.
I don't care to argue for the sake of polemic. I just stated my perception. You disagree. OK.
Ok, I would answer your question if I felt I understood it. But it's late and if you don't want to pursue it I understand.
Nothing is black or white, it very much depends on particular circumstances. But if we are talking generally, in the context this conversation started, what I meant to say is that too much power is put in the hands of greedy and especially the psycho crazy minds. There are plenty around, And that there should be more checks and balances.
This arguing reminds me of a mental asylum joke.
this is something the extremists would say.

I am indeed not a well balanced person, and thus may very well fit your assessment above. But where you are wrong, is that this only concerns myslef and my views, and how I find direction to live my life. I do not want to cause any harm, nor do I think anyone owes me anything. My strength remains as long as I can pull my own plug. I try to find the light, most days. I too have imagination and can even invent witches, but why bother if that's the only way of 'interacting'.
I am indeed not a well balanced person, and thus may very well fit your assessment above.
If you thought I was talking about you, I apologize.
I was not, and it did not even occur to me that you would think that I was. I'm sorry.
I agree completely with this assessment. Better is what we all want to be tomorrow, I just think that doesn't mean we can't appreciate and celebrate where we are today.
So faithful flunky Mike is finally Woke? Took a while . . .
I’m not sure what the fear is that you’re talking about. The people aren’t fearing, rather they just want to share in all the wealth that is being created. They want opportunity. Certainly the education system leaves something to be desired. It serves the rich quite fine but those at the bottom are left wanting. The rich in the USA spend five times more on post secondary education than the average amount spent.
Corporations certainly have undue power but government regulation does happen and can be strengthened if the political will is there. First it requires understanding and that’s obscured by the rich.
