    • Is there anything in the pipeline with regards to adding multiquoting (and maybe partial quoting, although that seems less useful) functionality to Cake? I think the ability to respond to multiple people/posts in a single post would be an excellent thing to be able to do...a la advrider.com.

It seems to me that it's a little cumbersome to respond to both sides of an argument if you can only directly quote a single side in a post. What are your thoughts?

In "reply" we get a nice baloon with the author and a partial quote of the entire post, and perhaps the cake desingineers intended it this way to encourage short posts. However, if we want to reply to a fragment of text inside the post, like here, we are more limited. It would perhaps be a feasible addition to have the server take the quoted fragment as input, and return a nice baloon with the author.

To jlever's point, I agree, and perhaps this more "nuclear" quoting functionality would allow multiquoting.

I'm sure we'll add enhancements to the reply functionality in the future, but for now Cake has a "block quote" formatting feature you can use for this. Copy and paste the text you want to quote into your post, then select it and click the button with the quote icon in the formatting toolbar to turn it into a block quote.

If you want to cite the person you're quoting, you can do that by typing their name above the block quote and perhaps bolding it, as I've done here.

The reason we show a partial quote in a reply is more to provide context than to encourage short posts (long posts are great!), but yeah, I agree that the automatic quoting in replies is a bit limiting. We've actually got an improved design in the works for replies that I think will reduce confusion about automatic quoting and help encourage the use of block quotes. Just need to find the time to implement it. 🙂

Thanks for the feedback, guys! Keep it coming. It's helpful to hear.
