    • It's National Chocolate Cake Day today!

Grinding chocolate powder was invented in 1764 by Dr. James Baker. But it wasn't until many years later that the chocolate cake we know and love was developed and widely seen. As per this NPR article: "The chocolate cake, who'd have thought this gooey bomb, which made its appearance in the late 1800s, would have a science connection? "It was the time of Edison and electricity," says Byrn. "There were these cooking schools in Boston and Philadelphia which focused on exact measurements and making healthy foods with this new energy-giving ingredient, chocolate. Chocolate companies hired these ladies to create recipes."

With 2,270+ five-star reviews, this recipe for chocolate cake seems to be an all-star. I won't be baking, but I'll celebrate with some vegan chocolate macarons from a neighborhood bakery.

      What about you?
