It may be the magnitude of the conspiracies that makes my mind go blank. Here's the thing: my mom was deeply paranoid schizophrenic as were many of her friends that I grew up with on the street. It was tragic and she spent years in mental hospitals. I often spoke to psychiatrists who treated her and I read books about her disease.
But she was not crazy enough to fall for something like QAnon. A few homeless people we knew might have harbored conspiracy theories that far out, but they were generally not functional in many ways.
It seems like I know a lot of people who are not very anxious, like my extended family in Utah, who are otherwise normal but believe insane modern conspiracies like QAnon.
