In 2014, art world legend David Hockney had an exhibit at de Young in San Francisco where he showed large scale iPad paintings. He wasn’t the first to paint on the iPad, but he was definitely the first major artist to make it a primary medium in a high profile exhibition.
When I saw that exhibit, it was transformative. He’s probably my favorite artist of all time, and seeing his incredible iPad paintings of Yosemite, and other landscapes, printed out at huge scales (some were over 10 feet tall on the gallery walls) was incredible.
