Looks like Rivian is getting real and no longer just a trade show concept. There are unconfirmed rumors of sizeable investment for a minority stake from GM and Amazon, valuing it between $1-2 Billion dollars:
I'm excited about this development for a number of reasons. Perhaps the biggest is the validation of the need for EV trucks. Another reason to be exicted is new distribution channels for Rivian. In light of these news the conversation we had about pros and cons of Rivian is even more relevant now:
The question is, would Rivian become a showroom car at GM dealerships or would they pursue Tesla's strategy by opening up their own branded stores?
How else would people find out about electric trucks as a viable alternative, when most still shop at dealership lots?
