@johnandrews , it seems like there are two different languages wrt issues like this and I wonder if that helps fuel the controversy. The language of food companies is usually that the science isn't settled and there's bias in the media and exaggerated reporting. However, the language is usually absent specifics. I understand and respect why they talk about the issues that way.
But I am a scientist and our language is usually to seek specifics: which data is in doubt, what questions still remain? Food companies have huge marketing and PR teams and scientists have almost none, plus food companies have a simpler, more comforting message: nothing much to see here. So it seems their language is the one with the power to stick.
