I think you have the hang of it Chris. It's one of my 'things' too.
There are two stock in trade shots for bike magazine work.
The chase/follow vehicle.
As with all examples it's a case of shoot as slow as you can yet still keep the subject in focus. I usually bang off a few at 1/125 to get some solid shots in the bank, the slow it down from there - if they turn out fuzzy when you download them you always have the solid ones to fall back on.
It yeilds lovely wheel spin and the movement is in the road and immediate background.

Then there is the classic panning shot.
Again it's a slow as you can and keep in focus. With practice you can slow it down quite a lot. Hit the motor drive/burst option too.
Getting further away and using a longer lens helps too.
