While healthcare workers are undoubtedly heroes fighting off this pandemic, there's a second group of unsung heroes who are doing their part to help ensure that everyone stays at home - food delivery riders.
I've been using food delivery services from well before the pandemic, and now their businesses have boomed since Malaysia enforced the Movement Control Order (MCO) back in March. Not only do food delivery riders ensure that people can still get their favourite meals from their favourite restaurants during this MCO, they also enable restaurants to continue to operate even though customers are unable to dine in.
In Malaysia we have two major food delivery services, Grab Food and Food Panda. They each have their own pros and cons, but together they are keeping Malaysians sane by ensuring we get our food, and Malaysians take their food very seriously. Malaysians have been very thankful to our food delivery riders, and we've been showing our appreciation by generously tipping our riders, and sometimes even placing orders just to treat them. I've seen a tweet where someone ordered a dozen donuts and told the rider to share the donuts with his friends as a thank you.
Have you used any food delivery services lately? Has your use increased since the pandemic? What services are available in your area?
