A peacock in Oakland, California is creating quite a stir. According to some neighbors of the majestic bird, his piercing shrieks in the night are making their lives a living hell, causing them to demand the city of Oakland do something about his presence. Others have come to his defense, saying that he is bringing joy to their lives amid this pandemic. As it stands, the city intends to do nothing as the peacock is feral and is expected to move on in a little while. Pretty entertaining read!

But as far as real peacocks, I bike up one of the canyons near our houses, slamdunk, and there is a Peacock explosion there. Been going on for years. I forget about them as I'm lost in my audiobook and then one lets out a shriek and I almost fall off my bike.

East of my very middle America tract housing neighborhood is a small farm. On that farm is one (or more) peacocks. As the sound travels, it's gotta be about a quarter of a mile from the farm to my backyard. We can easily hear them when outside.
