"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on."
in every adversity lies the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.
I was actually thinking of starting a conversation about favourite movie quotes, specifically focusing on those with life lessons, but since you started this conversation I guess I'll contribute here 😀
"The night is darkest just before the dawn."
One of the classic quotes from C. Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. A very good quote about staying positive and holding on through tough times. Perfect for what we are going through now.
"Even a good decision, if made for the wrong reasons, can be a wrong decision."
I think this a very profound quote which touches on intentions, and how intentions can be just as important, if not more, than actions. A perfect example is a politician giving out financial aid to people under his/her constituency. Is the aid a genuine gesture to help people, or just a bribe to buy votes for the next election?
"The more you learn the less you know."
I heard this from the old Jumanji animated series and it stuck with me all this while. It's become even more evident since I pursued my tertiary education. The more you learn about a given subject, the more you realise how much you don't know, as opposed to people who only see what's on the surface. They have no idea how much they are oblivious to. It's a really good quote and I think it explains why some people can be so confident despite being so wrong.
The one I currently think about every day is from Einstein:
If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.
I think I'll use this a lot in my academic career 🤣
