Despite the recent boom in online shopping, it appears that smartphones are still one particular product that people prefer to buy from physical retail outlets. In Malaysia at least.
I am clearly in the minority in this regard. Of all my phones that I've bought over the years, only one was purchased in a retail store. My first ever Android smartphone, the HTC One X.
Since then, my Nexus 5, Moto X Style, Nexus 6P, OnePlus 5T, and my current OnePlus 7T were all purchased online.
Are consumers reluctant to spend so much money online out of fear of getting scammed or that their purchased phone might get lost in the mail?
Do people still have the need to test a phone out in person before buying it?
Do people prefer to buy from retail outlets for the freebies, like a free case or a free screen protector?
Where did you buy your current phone? Online or a retail outlet? Have you ever purchased a phone online? If not, why not?
