The GoPro with its media mod so you get decent mics facing both forward and backward is really good. Unless I want a shallow depth of field look, it's my go to.

But I often want the shallow depth of field so I use my EOS R5 a lot. It has vaunted in-body, in-lens, and digital image stabilization but I still can't get the video as smooth as with the GoPro.

The iPhone 12 may make me rethink the GoPro, especially multi-cam recording for interviews. I'm starting to do more interviews now for my YouTube channels and I'd like to do some in-person while walking and social distancing. If the iPhone is that smooth and the cameras are that good and you can do multicam, I mean, what other tool allows that?

What I didn't have time to add in the video is a gimbel for the iPhone. The OSMO adds a lot--but getting mic attachment in there is tough with balance issues.

Also, I loved the Media Mod for Hero8, but need a new one for Hero9, since it's a different size!

I had a DJI gimbal for the iPhone but I gave it away. I just found it unwieldy and hard to aim well when a GoPro 8 on a stick worked so well.

Not knowing the technology baked into the new iPhones, I am surprised at how well it does. Okay, not really. I suppose impressed is a better word. I know Apple spends a lot of time and money perfecting their products.

For the GoPro, there is software out for FPV drone guys called Rock Steady which reads the motion data ahead of the image (something that can't be done while recording) and then adjusts the image to where it knows the movement will be, even further stabilizing a fairly stable image. It's pretty cool, but have no idea if it works for the slower movements here. I would be curious what the outcome is if post-production stabilization software were applied here. (Does anyone do that for vlogging?)

@Chris I too have a DJI gimbal for my phone and agree that it's a bit large and difficult to control, but on a tri-pod with programmed movements, or fairly slow and long pans, I don't know of anything better.

On gimbel, just saying that it makes the iPhone footage even better. But good luck getting a mic in there!

As a science educator I am always thinking about controlled variables. What assurances do we have that the person holding the camera/video recording device was holding it the same way each time? Maybe something biased their step or bounce. I also think that where he started walking and videoing from is having an effect on our perception. When the building is near the top of his head, the movement jumps out at us but when it's just the sky above his head we really don't see the movement in the sky because there's no reference point. Just saying...

Best I could do with similar settings--same place, same time, same person doing the walk. iPhone on a tripod mount, GoPro on a similar mount, and the Pocket held the way DJI says to hold it.

I'd love to see more stuff like this on Cake.

It was still a great video and comparison I'm just saying how you might make it even better. I mean you're going to be a big influencer on Youtube so you have to make sure your comparisons are better than the competition’s ;) Yeah real world complexities will always leave some variability and we get it.

Reviewing rear came samples i think DJI Pocket 2 and Iphone 12 are very smooth. I also noticed some exposure shifts on the iPhone which makes the overall experince for DJI pocket 2 more refined.

I noticed bounce issue in all selfie videos (even when camera is tripod mounted) and it really becomes stressful for me to see even after few seconds.
