    • I am discovering new things about 🍰 all the time: there is an All timeline that shows posts from everyone! A bit similar to the Federated timeline on Mastodon.

      I love love love this!

    • I would follow 500 people if I could. I can't look at 500 posts a day, but I loved the experience of hearing from hundreds of fascinating people on G+, and I surely could not imagine what all they would talk about on any given day. But - like @cobalt in this thread - who I follow elsewhere since fairly recently: I did not realize Cobalt was even on Cake until I stumbled onto this thread - thanks @apm . Now I could cobble together a folder of links to work around the missing "follow" feature and keep seeing cobalt here, but no: I believe site developers have a concept of how their page should work; who am I to sully it? It is fine if the developer wants to adopt suggestions or not, it is the developer's to win or lose. I will not "fix" it here or anywhere; I will simply gravitate to where the content is most alluring - casting my vote for the platform(s) with my presence. Although cobalt and I are not particularly well acquainted as yet, she has interesting facets and I follow her where its an option (G+ and diaspora, so far).

    • Sorry to resurrect this necropost, but for people I know, I absolutely want to follow every post they make, because they may post on a variety of topics that I want to engage with them on. Maybe a "subscribe" function or similar would be great, I don't know, but I definitely feel like that's missing.

    • Hey Chris, is it every post you want to follow or just the posts in the interests you follow? I think one of the things that is driving people batty on Facebook is seeing people's posts on politics or social issues they can't unsee.

    • Well, if there was a person based interest follow, like G+'s Collections, that would be adequate, I'd think. For someone I wanted to hear absolutely everything from, I could just subscribe to all of them.

    • What I recall from long ago about FB was that I had real life acquaintances who turned out to have an overriding interest in some topic which was of no interest. But because we were acquaintances, we were sort of stuck with each other. But on G+ I encountered people whose overriding interests were exactly what I'd like to read. Sometimes they come with eccentricities. Sometimes the eccentricities are too much. But quite often they are great. On G+ right now, I follow 1600 +/- 50 people, 22 Communities, and only two collections.

    • Oh my! It's a good thing out of nowhere I decided to check back into Cake tonight! I am blushing per your compliments. I too look for people who I find fascinating. I follow each person based on their interests, not necessarily mine. On G+ I likely follow about 3,000 people and it's silly but way way more than that follow me. I only made "Collections" because I learned that ordinary public posts would not necessarily be seen by people who I follow and followers of me. I don't know why 100,000 or so folks follow my food posts. I have ideas why 21,000 people follow many Collections of mine. But I personally never follow anyone's Collection alone. I follow the person, not just a facet of the person. Am a big believer in the idea that when you see a post or topic you do not like, just scroll on past. If you really want to know something of what makes a person tick, you will not only look at a tiny facet of them. For an artist, it would be like people decide who I am only by the photos of rocks I post, or maybe they think they know me because I have a Collection about furry animals. I am not interested in people who only want me to share what they prefer.
