From the WSJ, a review article of what we now know about Sars-Cov 2 as the pandemic continues to progress.
Peter Pitot, the head of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, says "We underestimated it." I think the phrase "we are still underestimating it" may be more correct.
Dr Pitot and his spouse both have survived Covid 19, but continue to worry about long term consequences for themselves, and everyone who has experienced it.
A Really Diabolical virus.....
There have since been a number of confirmed reinfections.
What concerns me is that even if Biden wins, his options will be less effective because Trump has created such a large population of non believers who wouldn’t listen to Biden or the experts.
What study? I read some stuff about it earlier but when you get down to the statitics it wasn’t much of a benefit. Like saying life expectancy doubled for a group when their expectancy was 2% before and jumped to 4%.
Here’s my best source for updates:
Whoops, sorry! I forgot the link to the study:
He is one of my favorite science journalists. He gave a great TED talk about the Antarctic 10 years ago and has been runner up for Pulitzer Prize several times. His coverage of why the space shuttle fell from the sky was outstanding.
Promising pilot study for vitamin d3. Hopefully follow up studies are as promising. Thanks for posting the link. I would like to know what the mini meta analysis of vitamin d3 studies shows.
Students are returning to college all over the country.
This photo from San Diego State needs no comment - it speaks eloquently itself....... You can ignore the text, I post this link, for the image, not for a discussion of Stoics.
My estimate is that much social distancing is faux, not really happening. The photo I submit as evidence for my thesis. Masks allow people to get closer without feeling quite as threatened, whether that is actually true or not.
From the Washington Post
If only Chuck was still around to help us fend it off. Trying to lighten the dark mood many of us find outselves fighting. When you get down - think of Chuck.
I mentioned the use of convalescent serum last February as a potential treatment that was being explored in Wuhan and elsewhere. It has taken less than 6 months for real progress to occur in this area - Eli Lilly is announcing the production of immunoglobulins via bacterial synthesis with fairly impressive outcomes on the prevention of Covid 19 and even on virus shedding. It remains to be seen how soon this drug can get emergency approval
The research has not been vetted, but Lilly is a cautious pharmaceutical company, and has a strong history of not promising what it can't deliver.
