      The thing I think is funny is Europe is known for being more socialist than us, but in the US sports are more socialist and Europe is more capitalist. We seek parity among our teams. The penalty of being champions is you will soon fall in the rankings so less privileged markets will have equal opportunity.

      So true! Related, when I moved to the US I was struck by how centrally planned most sports here are – take football as a prime example – compared to soccer. Soccer feels like the free market: fluid, creative, chaotic, individualistic.
