New Zealand is on my bucket list of places to hike. Gorgeous scenery, waterfalls and amazing hiking trails.
But traveling overseas, east or west, has an oversized negative impact on climate change:
But at a time when we urgently need to reduce our impact, greenhouse gas emissions from aviation continue to grow. For example, since 1990, CO2 emissions from international aviation have increased 83 per cent.
“Cheap” fares may turn out to be costly in terms of climate change.
I understand the safety factor in choosing to fly domestically over driving, even if driving causes less pollution.
But overseas travel to New Zealand?
Is it ethical to go on vacation overseas?
Should there be limits on the number of trips you can take?
Or should there be a carbon tax on overseas travel?
