    • I keep finding myself trying to find something to click on that will cut my stream down to a specific topic. This seems to me an extremely basic thing that an interest network like this would need to have. But perhaps I'm missing something? ... I have only been here for about an hour.

      *edit*

Oh, I see you can view categories -- under the search icon-thingy. Not filtering, though.

    • Thanks cacarr and welcome to Cake! 😁

Just to make sure I understand, are you looking to switch from topic to topic in a simple way? In other words, maybe you follow photography and politics but today you're not in the mood for politics so you just want to click the photography topic?

That's something I want too—to be able to get from topic to topic without much friction, like you can do with the channels in Slack. We haven't been able to build a clean solution for that yet. 🤔

    • You might just give us a list of the topics we follow -- and allow us to select all, deselect some, select only one, etc. You can at least view a single list with "Circle Streams" on G+ -- same with Twitter lists -- and IIRC (it's been a while) FriendFeed had rather more advanced filters, so as to control what you see in your home feed.

    • Another thing that occurs to me is that people will probably tend to add lesser or temporary interests of theirs over time, and then one's sort of core interests will become increasingly diluted in the feed -- forcing people to periodically prune their topics, if there are no home feed filters. Maybe one likes cat pics, but not nearly as much as, e.g., linguistics and cognitive science -- cat pics will dominate less popular topics in your feed, unless you can leave cat pics turned off most of the time.

Great insight. We also think that there should be a way to elevate your core topics. Our current thinking is to mark core topics in some way and then to filter or navigate to them directly. We've held off on this project until there is enough topics on Cake to start working on it. This is @bstrong and my passion project, so we are hoping to start working on it soon 😉.

    You've been invited!
