While I'm still working and didn't think it would happen where I am and have been for 19 years but it did. The dreaded age discrimination. Of course other excuses were given for me not being selected for a position that I have applied for 3 times in the last year. The last time I wasn't even given an interview.
The team I was trying to get on is a young team in their mid 20s to early 30s. There is travel involved and my understanding is a lot of partying is done at the end of the day. I'm plenty qualified for the position but I don't fit with the younger crowd as far as they are concerned. I find that humorous since I'm very involved with motorcycling and spend a lot of time with younger riders.
I'm told to continue to apply and spend time networking with the people already in the position since ultimately that's who I need to be accepted by. With the new realization that I have encountered I'm now wondering what is next in my life. I want to retire in two years but I want to be able to work part time. Now I fear I won't be able to get a part time job because of my age.
What's the thoughts and experiences other have had?
