We got a delivery just now (Sunday) that I ordered on Tuesday from Costco via Instacart. I spoke to the driver awhile. Super nice guy. It's what he does full time. He said it's extra challenging now because the stores are out of so many things so the order sizes aren't what they seem because you can only fill part of the order, and the tips shrink with every item the drivers can't find. Everything is slowed down by having to keep 6 feet of distance. The stores enforce it.
He said half the people in Costco are Instacart drivers. He sees the same people all day as he's shopping. He doesn't see how the company can ever hire the 300,000 people he says they think they need in the U.S.
He doesn't want to strike but says he understands why drivers do. It's hazardous and they don't get hazard pay or stuff to stay safe. That's on them to procure.
Feels like the drivers have a lot of leverage right now.
