Oman's Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said passed away on Friday. Admittedly, I didn’t really know who he was, but his death appears to be a pretty big deal in terms of how things could shake out in the Middle East in the future. Al Said has no clear successor since he never had any children or brothers. Should be an interesting thing to monitor in the coming days and weeks. I thought the article below by Al Jazeera did a really good job explaining the significance of this. Apparently, Al Said made good use of Oman's oil reserves but now they are needing to shift away from relying too heavily on those. Anyone have additional thoughts?
