I am getting a bit impatient for the general usage of augmented reality. When are we going to see a killer app? Anyone here following the latest developments in augmented reality? Seems more hype than actual products :(

Magic Leap is hyped to be the coolest company working on augmented reality right now. They've raised a gazillion dollars already ($3Bn over 10 rounds), but nothing for consumers like me.
Just 3 weeks ago, they've hired a top exec from Microsoft as a new CEO:
I'm still waiting for them to deliver a product or a demo that is truly mindblowing. Maybe in a few years if they are still around?

”Struggling” company that’s raised $3 billion? Yikes. That is a crap load of money for just programming and some small tech stuff. They better come out with something astoundingly good.

Wow, bold move for her. She has a great career right now. It sure feels like everyone from Facebook to Microsoft has gotten excited about VR, only to discover how hard it is.
$2300 USfunds for the lowest price kit. That's a deal breaker. Well a deal breaker to wider user availability.
That’s the thing - they are going after enterprise customers with huge pockets. Manufacturing and automotive industries where overlaying schematics in real time on top of a physical machinery will save so much time and money by using these. I think this is the most lucrative market to go after, especially if you can sign up a major client with hundreds or thousands of orders.
Hundreds of thousands of orders??? Why would a company buy that many units? How many companies even have that many employees? Or would they use it to sell their products? Like home developers using it to sell to clients?
Imagine that you are a Ford company and Magic Leap does a pitch to you. They say with their new headsets you can improve your assembly line speed by 20% and it will only cost you $2K per headset. If you have a few hundred assembly workers this may make a lot of financial sense. There are so many examples like this in other industries as long as there are compelling software options specific to their needs. Industry specific apps are probably the hardest things to solve.
I get the idea but I have yet to see any product or program that could do anything like that. I guess that's what the venture capitalists are waiting for and put their $3 billion down on.
