I recently finished Claire North's incredible novel, THE GAMESHOUSE, and wanted to share why you may want to roll the dice and check out this intriguing title.
The book is made up of 3 novellas - The Serpent, The Thief and The Master - each one set in a different time and place. The Serpent is set in 16th Century Venice: The Thief, Thailand in 1938, and The Master is set in the modern day and age.
The only uniting factor between the three stories is the presence of The Gameshouse - a space that appears in and outside of time where the most skilled players compete in games that decide the fate of more than you can imagine.
The Gameshouse has lower levels for everyday bets and wagers, but in its high levels, the stakes are life and death, empires and fortunes. You're playing for "The freedom only victory can afford."
And behind every game and action is The Gamesmaster...shrouded in white, whose choices, invitations, and bets shape the future.
Each of the three novellas is a compelling and quick read, so that in total the book flies by. Packed with intrigue and action, the book combines the espionage elements of KILLING EVE and THE NIGHT MANAGER with historic scenes and settings so that you're never quite sure where you stand. I highly recommend this title and look forward to hearing your thoughts if you've read it as well!
