I'll admit, I'm as likely as anyone else to get lost in various streaming platforms looking for the best option to watch next (or what's served up to me in the algorithm - Monty Don's French Gardens anyone)?
That being said, The Tick on Amazon Prime is a superhero gem that's well worth your time.
This isn't the first time The Tick has been brought to TV, but each 28 minute episode of Amazon Prime's series brings a unique blend of comedy, sincerity, and just-plain-loveable-weirdness to the screen that can't be found elsewhere. From the Flag Five (think Fantastic Four with a twist) and Onward the [talking] Dog (aka Midnight)...
To the delightfully realized absurdity of the VLM being on the verge of destroying the city (VLM standing for "Very Large Man" of course)...
To the always on point Overkill, an aptly-named vigilante who veers on the edge while fighting for justice...
The show is witty and keeps it moving right along: while you'd think the focus of the show would be our title character played with wide-eyed enthusiasm by Peter Serafinowicz, the story hones in on Arthur Everest, a mild-mannered accountant played by Griffin Newman, who ends up having to step up as a hero even as he doesn't want to be, and tackle the fears and traumas of his past along with some help from his friends.
The entire cast is excellent. While The Tick originally debuted on Amazon Prime with a pilot episode in 2016 and then two subsequent episode releases in 2017 and 2018 (so all 12 episodes are available to watch now from Season 1 - hooray!), the great news is that there will be a Season 2 of 10 episodes expected to premiere sometime this year.
The Tick - catch the fever! (no, really, in a good way)
