Do you have a weird or off-the-beaten-path artistic hobby? You must tell me about it.

H/t to @Shewmaker. Most photo conversations are either photo walks of a place, photo galleries of a subject (flowers, mushrooms), or a photo scavenger hunt. James shared what I can only describe as an essay on his creative thinking. On how he decides what is art for his chosen medium. On his philosophy of creativity. And I think I have a philosophy of creativity for my chosen medium as well.

I think writing for me is successful when I’ve crafted something that only I could’ve written. A personal story, a unique take on an issue, or a juxtaposition of components that no one else would’ve put together. It doesn’t have to be completely original or perfect, it just has to be me. Because too much of what I read is ephemeral and the only way to be evergreen is to have an original voice. Craft is important, but without an original voice you might as well be a well-programmed robot.

What’s your medium of choice and what’s your Philosophy of Creativity?
