What do you travel for? It can be business, visiting family or friends, or simply visiting somewhere for good ole' fashioned touristy fun. My husband and I have always had the most fun when we find a fun excuse to pin a travel adventure onto a single experience.
One of our favorite things to do is travel for music. We have either gone out of our way to see a band we love that isn't coming to our neck of the woods, or opted to travel to see someone rather than see them at a local venue we've been to a hundred times.
We live in the Bay Area, so we're lucky to have no shortage of live music here. I've probably been to a couple hundred shows in my lifetime. We drove down to Solvang last summer to see Mad Caddies. We just got back from LA where we planned a whole Disneyland family vacation around going to see Thrice at the House of Blues in Anaheim. We even caught them as well as a handful of other bands in Toronto at a music festival we attended that just so happened to be happening the same time as a conference we went to.
By far the most extensive example was driving out to Colorado to see John Butler Trio play at Red Rocks. Absolutely stunning location, visually and acoustically. That venue alone is bucket list worthy, being in the Denver/Boulder area is a bonus! Driving out there let us take our time for some really great photo opportunities as well.
What are some unique excuses you've used to travel to new places and have unique experiences?
