The Burt Munro Challenge is/was the biggest event in NZ Motorcycling. It's the Kiwi version of Speed Week but with regularly dodgey weather.
Hosted by the Southland Bike Club in Invercargill to pay Homage to the city's favourite media son.
Races are held over a 5-Day Festival and feature a Hill Climb, Long Track, Speedway, Beach Racing and Street Racing at nearby Wyndham - and thousands of riders in Party mode in a pretty remote part of the world.
I was sent to cover the event 5 times. This is from 2010.
'For the Win'
Is one of my favourite images from those trips and a reminder of the joy of a press pass. The Stadium was absolutely packed and I had 'The Lanyard'.
I like the way the flag frames the bikes and the luck of the perfect timing - this was pre killer burst speeds.
The 'yessss' from the passenger was more poignant because he had fallen off in the previous heat and had cost them a podium.
Camera was a Nikon D90 and kit zoom lens.
