    • I got the email about the Cake app now bring in the iOS store, however interestingly the email address at which I received the email is not the current email address in my settings.
It probably was the email address I originally used when I signed up for Cake, however I think it would be well over a month since I changed it.

Edit: just found it in the inbox of the email address in my settings as well.

    • The lack of badges is intentional. Personally I find badges anxiety-inducing since they make me feel like I need to do something. We want Cake to make people happy, not anxious. 😄

I like getting a push notification when someone reacts or replies to me on Cake, but if it also added a badge to the icon then I'd feel like I have to go do something to make the badge disappear, and that feels like a chore.

But obviously not everyone feels this way! Anyone else like badges? Should we add them?

    • I do agree that badges can be anxiety-inducing, however lock screen messages and banners can also be distractions. That is why I typically use badges for social apps and lock screen messages/banners for must-see things like Messages. But that is also just my personal preference.

I've always considered a good app citizen should give that choice to the user. If an app shows badges as an option and they do not work, it feels broken.

Interesting, the only push notifications I find useful are the weather alerts I get from my Accuweather app. They are useful to me because they provide specific details of what the severe weather is (tornado watch until 6pm, extreme cold advisory until Tuesday night, etc).

For gmail, I prefer seeing the unread count on my app, i.e. a badge. I used to use the badge notification for Twitter, however, I sometimes contribute to threads that turn into a storm of likes and retweets, which turns the badge count into noise instead of signal.

The push notifications from the Cake app aren’t intrusive. However, it might be nice to know whether it is for a reaction, a mention, or a post—especially if I’m participating in a great discussion like this.

My two cents, for what it’s worth.

Hmm. Cake's push notifications do differentiate between reactions, replies, mentions, and new non-reply posts in conversations. Do we need to make the distinction more clear?
