I saw that my favorite movie critic, @itipmyhattoyou, had recommended a new film with Jessie Eisenberg and I was wondering if anyone had found any other interesting gems worth watching this weekend.

Molly's Game (2017) is a hidden gem, in my opinion. I don't know how it slipped off my radar for the last 4 years, since it is directed Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network).
Have you seen The Outsider with Jared Leto? I thought that was a well done crime film on the Yakuza.
I will have to check out the trailer for Girl/Haji, thank you.
Glad you liked my review! I recently convinced my wife to binge the HBO mini-series Watchmen with me, which we devoured in a few days. It's truly one of the best shows on tv recently. It resonated with me for days and not just because I'm a huge Trent Reznor fan and he made the score.
We're now watching Devs on Hulu and I'm excited that tomorrow is the premiere of What We Do In The Shadows Season 2, which will be available for streaming on Hulu the day after it airs on cable.
In my vast spare time, I've been watching Cursed FIlms on Shudder, which is a series that talks about movies that were 'cursed' during production. It's a little hokey, as they do interviews with witches and warlocks, but it's interesting to learn the history of such films.
I'm also re-watching some of my old favorites from when I worked at a video store. Movies like: The Spitfire Grill (which was one of my #1 recommendations when I worked at the store), Dick Tracy, Father of the Bride and My Fellow Americans.
In the name of nostalgia for more simple times before the coronavirus, my wife requested watching The Bachelor, whose last season ended earlier this year. So I decided to surprise her with the 1999 Chris O'Donnell feature The Bachelor.
Then there are the bad movies my wife and I enjoy that are so bad they're good. The likes of Blind Fury, No Escape, Fateful Findings (a Neil Breen film that defies all common sense or editing), Club Paradise and StarCrash. Amazon Prime is chock full of these good/bad flicks.
If you're looking for something actually good to watch, I cannot recommend highly enough Uncut Gems. It is even more tense than the directors previous film, Good Time. Uncut Gems will leave you breathless and actually made both my wife and I care about a basketball game (we're not sports fans).
I'm hoping to get around to watching Netflix's The Platform, as I love movies that take place in one location like Buried or 12 Angry Men.
Everyone seems to be re-watching Contagion, but that's just a little too real for me, as I live in Manhattan which seems like a ghost town these days.
So instead, we've taken to re-watching 30 Rock in the mornings or Toast of London, which are just a delight to start your day. (Just a heads up that Toast of London has more of a bawdy sense of humor.) You'll also notice that that's two shows I've recommended that star Matt Berry, who is a comedy gem. He was wonderful in his role on The IT Crowd. So, do as Toast suggests and say. 'Yes!' to one of the above recommendations.
My spouse and I watched the latest Agatha Christie mini-series last night "And Then There Were None" - the classic English murder mystery, 10 people are invited to dinner on Soldier Island off the Cornish coast, in 1939, and one by one they are murdered until no one is left....
Great story, great scenery, great cast, great acting, very well done - we found it on Acorn, but I believe it is available on other streaming services also - yes I see it on Amazon as well
The following night, we watched the first 5 sessions of the new season Bosch on Amazon. Darned good too!
I spent a couple years learning screenwriting and then a year trying to be a professional screenwriter. With dramas, you can tell after a certain amount of film time whether it’s worth watching. Giri/Haji is intelligent writing, grabbed my attention quickly, and even had me laughing at the family dynamic of the detective—laughing even with subtitles.
Total film time required to determine that this was A-grade viewing: twelve minutes.
Look forward to watching at least the first couple episodes this weekend.
👏👏👏👏
I'm glad you like it so far. One night my wife and I watched three episodes, I think. The writing is very good and I loved the seamless switching between Japanese and English. It was all very natural and real. And they know just when to end an episode to make sure you want to keep watching. I was very impressed.
