I agree with this. I actually like to see a business get an honest critique and then address it. It shows responsiveness and gives me more confidence that the reviews are actually accurate.
I love that you mention exercise and meditation, as a truly refreshing break makes me more productive afterward. Having mental space to think about a problem clearly often leads to a simpler solution.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. The price tag and privacy concerns are tough to swallow, but I’m really valuing my time lately and the facial recognition with Google is so low friction. Also, it only requires one tagged photo of my kid online …
I’m a productivity junkie, so this panel is right up my alley! I homeschool five children, and much of my day involves repetitive tasks (laundry, dishes, cooking, teaching the next lesson, etc.). I’m always wanting to increase efficiency of those …
... so on the topic of familymath1... in case you were wondering, my 11 year old only got 8 folds in for an entire Costco roll of 2-ply. 😁 She was hoping to beat your effort from the video. It certainly was more effort (141ft+ long!), but only a …
Mostly we look for patterns at first, what all the numbers in a row or column have in common. Then we might try to find where a certain number belongs, looking for clues in all directions around it. I also use it as a more tactile 100 board so you …
I’m so inspired by what I’ve seen on your site! As I’ve been busier with her younger siblings, I think my oldest has been more independent with math, and she and I both miss the companionship as she explores new concepts. I want to get back in the …
We also keep tangrams, pattern blocks, and logic puzzle books around, but even something as simple as stocking graph paper for doodling has yielded fruit in understanding geometry.
Math understanding came very early to my oldest child. She seemed to just intuit concepts, and plowed through the solid mastery-based curriculum I had chosen to teach arithmetic (Singapore or Primary Mathematics).
She was on track to start algebra …
Thanks for pulling this together. I actually have a degree in chemistry, but I’ve always loved math and share that passion with my children. I homeschool 4 of them, from a 6th grader working through Art of Problem Solving’s Introduction to Algebra …
It is a long road for sure, and mathematics is so incremental that it’s critical to meet students where they currently are with understanding. That must be a challenge in those younger grades where everyone has such a different starting level. I’ve …
My husband works a 4 day week, still right around 40 hours. It’s an improvement over 5 days for sure. Even just having a weekday to take care of things like dental, haircuts, or a grocery run frees up the weekend for hobbies and leisure. His day …
I think the advice from Warren Buffet is great, but then again I like almost all of his advice!
I think the timing matters. A chunk of change in your 20s can make a big difference in affording a reliable car or perspective-broadening international …
Yeah, it definitely doesn't paint them in a good light, but it's not an Islamophobic issue I don't think. It sounds like they're sticklers for rules (when they want to be...). The girl with a white stripe on her shorts could have been DQ'd as well …
That approach makes some sense to me, until a person loses their health (or their life!) due to a preventable illness.
There are so many options within the umbrella of health that I don’t often find myself constrained. If I don’t enjoy running, I …
Read a book first? Before I reach for my phone in the morning, I reach for a book and read at least a few minutes. In my case it’s scripture, but Greg McKeown (author of Essentialism) recommends any wisdom literature that has stood the test of …
I’m wondering why the sign itself needs to go? I must be ahead of the curve because I’ve always taught my kids that the two sides of the equation are equivalent. They aren’t the same.
I guess what they’re getting at is possibly the need for a …
This is how candy-ignorant I am:
I grew up on pretty much all the candies on both lists, but I admittedly don't really have much candy exposure outside of Halloween.
My husband and I were passing through a gas station in the middle of nowhere …
I wish the article had defined their terms, but I’m pretty sure I disagree wholeheartedly. 😆
First, the linking of forgiveness with forgetting is a fundamental flaw. We never really forget anything, nor need we to move forward, but the inability …
My overall sentiment was just tickled that there were hundreds of people who poured their creativity into making this magical spot on the mountain for the summer.
I wonder how these hold up to the weather? We had a good rain while we were there, and I noticed my kids unconsciously tidying up a few of casualties as we passed through. Fallen fairies were set in their places.
